"Glioblastoma multiform"

My daughter, 55 years of age,was diagnosed with a brain tumour in April 2006. She had surgery within two days and a tumour of betseen 3 and four centimeter size was removed. It was identified as a stage IV Glioblastoma.Standard radiation treatment and Temazol chemotherapy regimen followed, but she did not respond to the treatment. Two month after finishing radiation the tumour grew back and during the following three clinical trials with different chemotherapy drugs it grew to a size of six centimeters. At this point the neuro-oncologist at the hospital where she was treated told her that they have nothing else for her. She was accepted at another leading cancer hospital where her doctor started her on Gleevac. This was early 2007. The tumour did not respond to Gleevac either. January 2007 Dr. MIchelakis published his findings with DCA and as you all know the communique was repeated on national TV as well as in all leading newspapaers.
We thought that the mechanics of DCA's workings is so unique and revolutionary, also it does not have the destructive side effects of all other chemotherapy drugs, we would like to try it. The search for DCA started, and I found that one compounding pharmacy had it actually in stock. The pharmacist was willing to supply us, provided we can get doctor's prescription. Fortunately, my daughter's oncologist was willing to write the prescription, saying that we have nothing to loose. My daughter started taking DCA on the first of May 2007, a daily dose of 500mg,(She ways 50 kg) together with Gleevac. After one month of the new regimen, the tumor showed no progression and at every subsequent MRI controll showed shrinkage of varying degrees, on one occasion as much as 50%.
August of 2008 the tumour is no longer visible, the area is completely cleaned of necrosis. Subsequent Gamma camera SPECT image (high resolution) shows no cancerous activity in the brain.
We believe that DCA did it's part in this act of Miracle.
By the way, she was and still is taking only an antiseizure drug and Vitamin B-1 to control potential neuropathy effects, which she did not have) She is also drinking one cup of strong coffee every morning.
We are cautously optimistic about the future, but for the present the famly, her husband two beautiful daughters, sister and cousins are all elated. DCA has changed not only her life, but all of ours.
I want to encourage you all, not to give up, believe in this drug because it obviously works. Maybe not for everybody and not in all cases, but you have to believe that you are all the lucky ones. Your website, your testimonials, your encouraging words and amazing knowledge has given me steady hope and trust that we are doing the right thing.Keep it up. I will peridically post news about my daughter
and hope they will all be good.
Dear Heather : you have posted a telephone conversation with another Glioma patient, who is also on a Gleevec and DCA combination. He had good initial results. I would very much like to get in touch with him,
since he is probably the only person in the world with this combination treatment. You may pass on my e-mail address to him, if he is not ready to give me his.
Thank you in advance and please keep up your good work.

Koko

Koko,

This is fantastic news! Could you confirm which particular anti-convusant drug is being used in conjunction with the DCA?

Koko,

It was Jim who posted that conversation on the Reports page of this site. We don't have his email at this time. Maybe someone will reply and be able to help you.
